At 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 18, stir up some fun with acids and bases and end up with some colorful results during this free, one hour STEM focused class.

Limited to the first 20 participants entering grades 1-5. The free tickets will become available 30 minutes before start time.

Artists age 18 years and older are invited to submit up to two entries in the 50th Annual Lakewood Art Show. Art intake will be on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Lakewood Branch Library, 6121 Worth Street, Dallas, 75214. Entry is free for members of the Lakewood Library Friends, and $15 per item for nonmembers.

An opening reception for artists and their guests will be held on Monday, May 5 from 6:30 -8:00 pm.

"Winters Horizon," by Kay Dalton.

To celebrate the 50th Annual Lakewood Art Show, the Lakewood Library Friends is holding a free drawing: Our Patrons Are Golden.  Twelve winners will be drawn and each will be awarded one of the spots in a free, six lesson adult art class. The class includes all art supplies, and will be held in the auditorium of the Lakewood Branch Library, 6121 Worth Street, Dallas, 75214. The six weekly classes wiil be held on Fridays, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, beginning March 21, through Friday, May 2, 2014. No class will be held on Friday, April 11.

Any Dallas resident age 18 or older may enter this free drawing by submitting a completed entry form to the reference desk of the Lakewood Branch Library, where forms are available, no later than Saturday, March 1, 2014.  Only one entry per person is allowed. The winners will be chosen at random from all submitted entries, and will be notified by Wednesday, March 5.

Because this class is limited to 12 students, all entrants are asked to review their personal schedules and the class dates to make sure they can commit to all six lessons. 

The six, two hour lessons in acrylic painting will emphasize color, shape, and expression, and will be taught by Dallas artist Kay Dalton. Dalton is both an experienced art teacher as well as an artist whose works are found in private and public galleries. She explained that this art class is for all artistic skill levels, with the emphasis on self-expression and fun. Participants will be given the opportunity to display their completed art with the theme “Impressions of White Rock Lake” at the 50th Annual Lakewood Art Show which opens on Monday, May 5.

On Tuesday, Nov. 19, you are invited to a free presentation of the book, "John F. Kennedy Sites in Dallas-Fort Worth", by authors Mark Doty, Historic Preservation Officer for the City of Dallas, and John H. Slate, City Archivist for the City of Dallas.


The book documents the events of November 22, 1963 in Dallas, along with sites with a direct connection to that day using more than 200 historic images from collections including the Dallas Municipal Archives and the Dallas Morning News. View select images during this illustrated talk followed by a Q&A and a book signing. Enter the free drawing for a signed copy of the book.
