Clear some shelves in your home and support the Lakewood Branch Library! The Lakewood Library Friends (LLF) is seeking donations of gently used hardbacks, paperbacks, audio-books, vinyl LPs, CDs, DVDs, and other media items for the LLF Annual June Leftwich Book Sale opening Saturday, October 5. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Lakewood Branch Library.

Now through October 12 donations may be brought to the Lakewood Library Mon–Wed 10am-8pm; Thurs-Sat 10am-6pm. The library is located at 6121 Worth St. @Abrams, Dallas, 75214. For more info, call 214-670-1376 or email:info@lakewoodlibraryfriendsdallas.org

On Saturday, September 17, from 10 am – 5 pm the public is invited to a day of free family fun which includes children’s crafts, face painting, and page coloring for kids & adults. Wear any Batman or Batgirl attire to enter the free drawing for a D.C. Comics themed-prize basket. Attire includes, but is not limited to, a T-shirt, cape or socks.

Join in musical movement fun with Kindermusik by Purple Nest at 11 am.

Browse for bargains among more than 15,000 books and other media items in the Annual Book Sale. Find fabulous raffle items donated from local merchants, the Lakewood Knit Wits, and more. A 2012 spring yarn bombing by the Lakewood Knit Wits at the Lakewood Branch Library.

This Spring Break the Lakewood Branch Library has an array of free events for children ages 5 through 12. Celebrity appearances include: Ronald McDonald sharing his love of reading; Sister Cat brings Seussology and stories of The Cat in the Hat;  Maricela Carelock with her electric guitar and amazing puppet friends; Dallas Police Officers onsite with Squad Car Show & Tell. 

Programs listed above begin at 1:30 pm and run Tuesday through Friday, March 15-18. In addition, a special spring themed crafts-making session will be held on Saturday, March 19 at 2 pm.

Tuesday, October 20, the public is invited to hear the free presentation by local author and storyteller Rose-Mary Rumbley, “The History of Traveling Around Dallas,” with stories form the first car in Dallas to Carroll Shelby’s Cobra, from trolley cars to DART light rail, and more.

Thursday, June 25 at 7 pm Barnes & Noble, Dallas, Lincoln Park will be hosting an author event with Lakewood author and Salon.com editor, Sarah Hepola. You'll be able to meet Sarah and purchase her just released memoir, Blackout: Remembering The Things I Drank to Forget.

2014 Lakewood Art Show award winning entry "Father and Son, 1951," by Guinn Powell.

Artists age 18 years and older are invited to submit up to two entries in the 51st Annual Lakewood Art Show. Art intake is on Saturday, April 25 from 10 am - 4 pm at the Lakewood Branch Library located at 6121 Worth, Dallas, 75214. The entry fee of $15 per item is waived for members of Lakewood Library Friends (LLF). Memberships are available at the door.

Any family-friendly, recent, and ready to hang or display work may be entered in the show in these categories: painting, drawing, photography, print, sculpture, mixed-media, and fine craft.

An opening reception for artists and their guests will be held on Monday, May 4, continuing the long tradition of an evening of food and art at the Lakewood Library.
