District champions take top honors, put eight on all-district list

The district champion Lady Friar softball team handed out a slew of awards during their banquet this past weekend.

Bishop Lynch captured four of the district superlatives, including the top two awards — District MVP and Coach of the Year. Here's the complete list:

2016 TAPPS All-District

Most Valuable Player — Francesca Farlow

Coach of the Year — Amy Wheeler

Co-Defensive Player of the Year — Kristen Linares

Newcomer of the Year — Abby Thrash

1st Team — Francesca Farlow, Kristen Linares, Abby Thrash and Megan Metry

2nd Team — Noelle Pastor and Anabel Quinn

Honorable Mention — Rhiannon Townsend and Shannon Hasty

Despite a first-round playoff loss, the Lady Friars went 14-0 in district play with a young, inexperienced roster, capturing coach Amy Wheeler's 12th district championship. Farlow is the only senior leaving the team.
