The first round of the district softball schedule is complete and one team — Bishop Lynch — stands alone atop the standings following Thursday's 8-2 road win at Ursuline.

Last night's win was the sixth straight for the Lady Friars, who remained unbeaten in district play at 7-0, while improving their overall record to 8-6.

The second half of the district schedule will begin Monday when the Lady Friars host John Paul II at 4:30 p.m. Bishop Lynch took the first meeting in Plano, winning 11-10 back on March 7.

Midway through the district schedule, Nolan is behind BL in second place at 8-1, Ursuline is third at 6-2 and John Paul II is fourth at 5-5. The bottom half of the standings has Liberty Christian, Bishop Dunne, Trinity Christian and Prestonwood Christian.

Last night, the Lady Friars rode the arm of freshman pitcher Abby Thrash, who allowed just four hits and two runs, while also taking advantage of five Ursuline errors.

Bishop Lynch took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, but the Bears scored a pair in the third to take its only lead. The Lady Friars took the lead for good in the fifth and padded their advantage with a five-run sixth.

Head coach Amy Wheeler praised the solid play of the defense, which committed no errors, as well as the base-running of Kristen Linares.
