Students from Coppell ISD’s Austin Elementary School recently made wish bracelets to raise money for Dallas CASA. The student group, who called themselves “Baubles to Benefit,” wanted to raise money to help children living in foster care. To do so, they made and sold fashionable bracelets on a cloth string. Twelve students in grades three, four and five created the bracelets. They sold them for $3, raising $105 for Dallas CASA. Teachers Lauren Holcombe, Liz Malone and volunteer Kara Colby guided the students in their endeavor. The group visited Dallas CASA Feb. 18 to hand-deliver their donation and learn more about Dallas CASA.

Dallas CASA provides volunteer advocates to children removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. In 2015, 921 volunteer advocates were assigned to 2,680 children in Dallas.

Adopt Dallas CASA Angels

Dallas, Texas, Dec. 7, 2015—Students from Coppell’s Pinkerton Elementary participated in Dallas CASA’s Angel Tree program for the second year, donating money to buy gifts for 20 children living in foster care.

Children and their families at the school donated enough money to not only get gifts for 20 abused or neglected children but also to purchase gift cards for each child to help with any other needs. Gifts were delivered to Dallas CASA the first week in December.

Most children dream of finding special gifts under the tree Christmas morning. For children in protective care, life is so uncertain and full of change they can’t be sure Christmas is coming. Dallas CASA’s Angel Tree program assures that each child with an advocate will have gifts.

About Dallas CASA

All children have the right to be safe.  In 2014, almost 4,400 abused and neglected children were in the protective care of the courts because it wasn’t safe for them at home.  Sadly, nearly half of these children did not have CASA volunteer advocates to speak for them. For many abused children, a CASA volunteer is the only constant adult during a frightening, uncertain time.  CASA volunteers gather information to help judges decide where these children can safely and permanently live.  CASA volunteers can make an immediate and critical difference in the lives of abused children.  By 2019, Dallas CASA hopes to become the largest nonprofit CASA program in the country to serve all abused children in protective care.
