The Lady Friars had another long weekend, this time competing much closer to home at the 2016 Texas Open, hosted by Allen ISD.

Bishop Lynch (10-7) played seven matches in two days, finishing seventh out of 32 teams in the competitive field.

The Lady Friars swept their pool Friday, dropping just one set in three matches. BL topped Frisco Lone Star (25-9, 25-17), Lindale (25-7, 25-16) and Flower Mound Marcus (25-22, 21-25, 25-18).

Also on Friday, the ladies fell to McKinney Boyd (25-22, 25-16) in the crossover bracket to set up Saturday's championship schedule.

On Saturday, BL swept Sachse (25-22, 25-18) before dropping a tough quarterfinal match to host Allen (25-21, 25-21). The final match had the Lady Friars falling to The Woodlands (25-19, 25-14).

The varsity will get right back to work tomorrow evening, hosting a doubleheader against McKinney and Coppell. The first match will begin at 5 p.m. in the Legacy Gym.

The junior varsity team (5-2) had a successful weekend at the Texas Premier JV Tournament, hosted by McKinney ISD.

The JV Lady Friars won second, losing only to McKinney Boyd in the championship match. JV results were:

def. Vines, 2-0

def. McKinney, 2-0

lost to McKinney Boyd, 2-1

The sophomore team (3-2-1) also competed in the McKinney event, winning the silver bracket. The sophomore results were:

tied with Plano West, 1-1

def. Shepton, 2-1

def. Rockwall-Heath, 2-1
