Roxie and Peyton jpg. A Party? Sure, we're in!

Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), located at 4711 Westside Dr., may possibly be the only church in Dallas with a community dog park on its grounds. It is also home to Connecting Point of Park Cities, a habilitation day program for adults with disabilities.

The teammates who attend the habilitation program decided to host a holiday open house for the dogs who visit the dog park. The dogs and their owners were invited to stop by Connecting Point, view their tree and enjoy a little Christmas cheer.

Hot chocolate was offered to the dog owners and organic dog treats were passed out to the canine guests.

Teammate Taylor is especially inquisitive and loves learning about all sorts of things. He was very interested in hearing from Max’s owner about the Boxer’s sensitive stomach and special diet.

Donia, with her bubbly personality, quickly became friends with Roxie.

Connecting Point of Park Cities opened its doors in the church last summer. The day program offers an opportunity for participants, known as teammates, to learn life skills in a loving environment.

The learning tasks include lessons in telling time, hanging or folding clothes, making snacks and other household skills needed to live an independent life.

Their afternoon arts and crafts class has produced some spectacular art, like the holiday postage stamps they designed and sold today.

Central’s mission is to be the loving hands of Christ to neighbors near and far. It strives to live that mission by having community space on its property for AcersCommunityGarden, which supplies produce to some of Dallas’ poorest families through Dallas Shared Ministries, the community dog park, a soccer field used by the YMCA for children and youth, and now its newest family member, Connecting Point of Park Cities.

Sunday worship is at 11 a.m. but the sermons are also broadcast on WRR (101.1 F.M.) on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. During Advent, sermons and music will explore The Miracles of Christmas. All are welcome.
