Central Members Margaret Wilson and Barbara Williams With Fowler Resident
Disciple Women’s Ministries of Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) helped residents of Juliette Fowler Communities celebrate July birthdays Thursday afternoon.
Pearl Nordan Center of Fowler Communities was decorated for a party and Central volunteers Carol Archer, Peg Dicken, Mary Chris Gibbons, Shelia Huffman, Frances Mosier, Becky Riggins, Liz Thurmond, Margaret Wilson, and Barbara Williams were on hand with cake, ice cream and presents to make the day special for the honorees.
A dessert smorgasbord of home baked confections like Strawberry Cake and Texas Sheet Cake were served. One Fowler resident brought along her “singing bears” which turned out to be “hits of the party.” The two bears serenaded the birthday ladies with Louis ‘Satchmo’ Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World” and the Beatles, “When I’m Sixty Four.”
Founded in 1892 with a $4,000 gift and the land to start a home for indigent women and children, Juliette Fowler Communities, Inc. today is home to about 355 adult residents on a 24-acre campus at 1234 Abrams Road in Dallas. The newest addition to the campus is the Ebby House, named for Dallas icon Ebby Halliday Acres. The Ebby House will accommodate young women who have aged out of foster care, but still need mentoring and love before entering the “real world” on their own.
Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Dallas—the longest continuously-operating ProtestantChurch in the city is located at 4711 Westside Dr.
Celebrating its 150th anniversary last year, the church continues to opens it doors and heart to all. Set on six beautiful acres just off Mockingbird Lane, Central is home to a community garden and a community dog park.
