Preservation Dallas celebrated their 2016 Fall Architectural Tour Saturday, October 29. The home tour honored the legacy of Ebby Halliday. 

Over 150 people gathered on the sprawling front lawn of Central Christian Church (the starting point of the event) in the shade of the landmark Bois d’ Arc tree to enjoy coffee and continental breakfast.  Following registration, guests entered the Sanctuary for a pre-tour symposium. 

Jim Archer, President of the Board of Directors of Central, welcomed everyone to the church and gave a brief history of the “oldest continuously operating Protestant church in Dallas”— Ebby’s church.  

A slide presentation and panel discussion of architectural styles of Dallas’ homes built between 1911 and 1966 highlighted the pre-tour presentation. 

The tour showcased six of Dallas’ loveliest homes, several of which were mid-century modern.  Central’s building was constructed in 1952 with additions in the sixties. 

The beautiful pipe organ in the sanctuary was given to the church by Ebby Halliday Acers in memory of her husband, Maurice Acers, and the piano in the front part of fellowship hall was donated to the church by Maurice Acers’ mother. 

Central is filled with memories of the Dallas real estate icon.  Ebby married Maurice at Central on Easter Sunday in 1965.  Her spirit remains within the church and members are forever reminded of her life motto, “Do something for someone every day.”
