VolunteerNow® will host the 14th annual Hearts of Texas Luncheon, which showcases the importance of volunteerism in the community by recognizing outstanding leaders, on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at noon.
Chaired by Bill Braxton of Pacenote Capital, this year’s luncheon is planned as an in-person event at the Belo Mansion, but with alternative plans in place should they be needed. A highlight will be the celebration of the Hoglund Family with the VolunteerNow Lifetime Achievement Award and The Senior Source with the Ruth Collins Sharp Altshuler Award. In addition, Liz Murray, a nationally renowned inspirational speaker and best-selling author, will share her triumphant journey from homelessness to Harvard University as this year’s featured speaker.
“As our organization commemorates our fiftieth birthday this year, it is only fitting that we recognize two Dallas treasures who have significantly impacted our community, the Hoglund family and The Senior Source,” remarked Tammy Richards, CEO of VolunteerNow. “Both have set high standards for others through their dedication to the community - the Hoglund family for their ongoing leadership and philanthropy, and The Senior Source, which serves as an advocate for older adults. We are extremely honored to celebrate both of these inspirational award recipients.”
The spirit of volunteerism runs deep through three generations of Hoglunds. Sally and Forrest Hoglund founded the Dallas-based Hoglund Foundation more than 30 years ago. Since then, their daughters and grandchildren have joined the organization’s cause to give back. As this year’s Lifetime Achievement Awardrecipient, the Hoglund Family joins an esteemed group of former honorees, including the late Ruth Collins Sharp Altshuler, Laura Bush, Lyda Hill, Charlotte Jones, Gene Jones, Dr. Bobby B. Lyle and Roger Staubach.
The Ruth Collins Sharp Altshuler Award, named in her memory and legacy of service, will be bestowed on The Senior Source. They are recognized for the exemplary way they leverage volunteers to further their missionof assisting older adults. The Junior League of Dallas was the first recipient of the award in 2019.
