DALLAS – Lakewood-area resident Amy Mehary of Dallas’ M-Power Prosthetics & Orthotics is one of only 20 local business owners selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Dallas/Fort Worth District Office to participate in the 2018 Emerging Leaders Executive Training Program.

Ms. Mehary was invited to join this year’s class among a select group of executives from what the SBA describes as “small, poised-for-growth companies that are potential job creators.”

The seven-month program includes nearly 100 hours of classroom time. Ms. Mehary and other participants will be working with experienced coaches and mentors; attending workshops; and making new connections with local leaders.

“It is an honor to be asked to join the Emerging Leaders Program, especially when you realize that very few small business owners have this opportunity,” Amy says. “I’m looking forward to learning more about helping M-Power grow and creating more jobs in our community.”

More than 5,000 small business owners have received training under the SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative since it was launched in 2008, leading to the creation of 6,500 new jobs nationwide. According to the SBA, small businesses have added almost three times as many local jobs over the past 10 years compared to big companies.

Ms. Mehary founded M-Power in 2006 to provide customized prosthetics and orthotics for patients in Dallas/Fort Worth and the surrounding communities. M-Power has grown to include nine employees who serve clients from the company’s offices and lab at Glen Lakes Health Plaza on North Central Expressway.

Ms. Mehary and M-Power are the original sponsors of Legapalooza, the largest annual fundraiser benefitting the Dallas Amputee Network. She lives in Dallas’ White Rock Lake neighborhood with her husband and two children.
