The countdown is onit’s to the point where it’s pretty much too late to order Christmas gifts and holiday items online (unless you’re willing to pay an arm and a leg for shipping), and the options are becoming more and more limited. So, we encourage you to branch out into your local businesses to finish that last-minute holiday shopping.

Let’s be honest: shopping malls are alright, but the parking situations are a nightmare this time of year and there’s hardly any space to shop comfortably.

Since we’re all about connecting local businesses and potential customers, as well as providing relevant, timely and informative community-focused news, we want you to know some of the most unique places to pick up Christmas gifts in the days leading up to December 25, as told by folks in your town’s Economic Development Corporation or Chamber of Commerce.

Using information from the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce and just our own favorite places, we gathered some ideas of businesses where we think you can pick some great, one-of-a-kind gifts for the loved ones in your life.

Here they are in Lakewood and Lake Highlands:

For the people in your life who are fans of nostalgic tunes or teenagers who love vinyl, pop into Good Records in the M-Streets for a musical gift.

Seriously, if you've never had a sweet treat from Nothing Bundt Cakes in Casa Linda Plaza, you haven't truly lived. That may be a bit melodramatic, but you get the idea. Consider picking up a freshly-baked bundt cake for a neighbor or coworker, or grab any of their other unique gift ideas, like candles, white-chocolate popcorn or "prissy plates."

Venture over to the Lochwood neighborhood's Lucky Dog Books and find a one-of-a-kind book of sheet music or a rare 45. It's also a great place to get children's books or a gift card for someone who has everything.

Everyone knows a "wine-o." Times Ten Cellars on Prospect Ave. is a good local place to pick up an affordable bottle of wine for a friend, boss, kid's teacher—whomever.

Don't forget about Green Grocer Dallas, the locally-owned, all-organic neighborhood market on Lower Greenville for your last minute shopping. Artisan items, fresh breads and salsas, locally-made beer like Lakewood Lager and other unique gifts line their shelves. Then walk over to Buffalo Exchange for a thrifted piece of jewelry or scarf—easy stocking stuffers!

The Sample House & Candle Shop is a no-fuss stop for candles and other gifts, Soap Hope offers lots of holiday samplers, and Green Beans Toy Boutique is a solid place to seek out interesting and educational toys for your little ones.

Happy shopping, and more importantly, happy holidays!
