Dallasite Amy Fikes will soon join an assemblage of women making a difference around the world, Donna Karan’s “Women Who Inspire”. While well-known for her support of charitable organizations, Amy has been invited to join “Women Who Inspire” specifically for her work with Planned Parenthood and Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas.

“Women Who Inspire” is an interactive forum for influential women to offer their individual messages and to inspire women everywhere to take action and get involved. Amy joins a group of notables such as Barabara Streisand, Meera Gandhi, Brooke Shields, Maria Shriver, Iman and Nicole Kidman.

Amy Fikes has been passionate about women’s health, family planning, and reproductive choice for decades and has been part of the Planned Parenthood family for many years. She currently serves on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas.

“People might be surprised to learn that 95% of Planned Parenthood’s services are preventive such as affordable birth control, lifesaving breast and cervical cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment and that one in five women in the U.S. has relied on Planned Parenthood at some time in her life,” says Fikes, “Going to a board meeting is an opportunity to be with friends and colleagues who share values and care deeply about providing women, men, and teens with comprehensive reproductive and sexual health care. The staff and volunteers of Planned Parenthood are deeply committed to the health and wellbeing of their community, particularly underserved women and their families. We all work together to make our community healthy and strong.  And, we do so with compassion. The Planned Parenthood motto says it all: Care, No Matter What.”

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like Amy Fikes, 250,000 Texans can count on Planned Parenthood health centers each year in Texas. Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas operates health centers across Central and North Texas, including in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Paris, Tyler, Waco and surrounding communities.

Amy will be officially inducted into “Women Who Inspire” at a private dinner hosted by Neimans at Fearing’s Restaurant on September 24, 2014. Donna Karan New York will be making a donation to Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas from a percentage of sales generated at Neiman Marcus NorthPark September 25th through 28th.
