Bishop Lynch High School inducted three new members into its Sports Honor Roll during a special halftime ceremony at the Friars’ Sept. 28 home football game in Roffino Stadium. The Sports Honor Roll was established in 1988 to commemorate exceptional Friar athletic accomplishments while celebrating lifelong excellence consistent with the school’s Dominican tradition of scholarship and service. The new inductees are Nikki Nester ’08, Kinsey Farren ’07 and Luke Silver ’07.

Nikki Nester — Class of 2008

Nikki Nester has one of the most decorated sports résumés in the history of Bishop Lynch. She is a five-time state champion in girls’ basketball, four as a player (2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008) and one as a coach (2017). She was All-State three years, won defensive player of the year as a sophomore in 2006, and was named district MVP as a senior in 2008. Her senior year was filled with many accolades as she was selected to the All-State team in the Texas Hoops Basketball Magazine, named a top 50 area player by Rise Magazine, and was selected as a TABC all-star.

Nikki received a scholarship to play at Southeastern Oklahoma State University where she was named an All-Conference Guard and is in the top five all-time in assists. She is currently the head coach at TAPPS 1-6A Ursuline Academy.

Kinsey Farren — Class of 2007

Kinsey Farren was not only a standout athlete at Bishop Lynch, but she also had a decorated collegiate career at the University of Missouri. Kinsey was a four-time individual TAPPS state champion in cross country and a two-time team TAPPS state champion her freshman and sophomore years. In 2006 she was named 6A Female Athlete of the Year and set the Bishop Lynch record in the 3200 meters.

Kinsey went on to become a member of the cross country team at the University of Missouri where she was the DrakeRelays Champion in 2008. She finished her career with All-Big XII honors in 2008 and second team Academic All-Big XII in 2011.

Luke Silver — Class of 2007

Luke Silver is one of the best wrestlers to ever graduate from Bishop Lynch High School. He won the state championship in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In 2005 he was named an All-American and in 2006 and 2007 he was named Texas Wrestler of the Year.

Luke is number two in Bishop Lynch history in all-time wins with 70, all-time team points with 439, and all-time pins with 43. He went on to wrestle collegiately at Oklahoma State University.

Bishop Lynch High School is the largest co-educational private Catholic school in Texas and has twice been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. A powerhouse in academics, athletics and the arts, BL has been awarded the TAPPS All-Around Trophy 13 times – more than any other school. Bishop Lynch hosts one of the largest Dual Enrollment program in the state, offering more than 30 courses a year including English, math, history, science, and fine arts. The last four graduating classes have each taken more than 3,000 credit hours with them to college, all earned free of charge for the student’s family while on the BL campus.
