Film students at The Episcopal School of Dallas continue to impress with their work behind the camera! Six students recently had films accepted into the All American High School Film Festival. The AAHSFF is the premier destination for talented high school filmmakers and media arts enthusiasts from around the world. Each year, they receive thousands of submissions and judges select the best of the best to be screened at the festival. ESD is excited to recognize six Eagles this year:

Sam Curtis ’21: Beyond Protein, Comedy

Robert Giles ’21: Tophet, Experimental

Lily Hagge ’21: CoronaVirus: Through the Ages, Documentary

Gabe Letcher ’21: The Life of a Penny, Experimental

Dani Nisbet ’22: Musicalia, Experimental

Ava Thompson ’21: Enough, Drama

Despite having the festival virtually this year, the students will tune in online this weekend to view their films with classmates, as well as other submissions from across the nation. “I have gone to the invitational in past years, and have to say the organization is something really awesome that I hope continues to flourish even throughout the online experience,” said Sam Curtis, who will be featured in the comedy category. “I’m happy with the final product of the film, and hope that the festival judges enjoy its dark humor and irony.” Others submitted in the experimental section, or like Ava, in the drama section. “I worked really hard on creating a very personal, sensitive film, so I am so glad that it came through to the viewer,” she said. “Getting into All-American was just the cherry on top.”

Five of the six students recognized are seniors this year and are excited to start the year with such an honor. “Through my four years of film class, I've always wanted my film to be accepted and am honored to finally have my art chosen,” said Gabe Letcher. “I never would have thought a film about pennies filmed during quarantine in my closet would be selected.”
