Each spring, St. John's Episcopal School welcomes a visiting author, alternating between lower and middle school interests. Authors engage the children in activities, role-playing and workshops. Arranged by librarian Jennifer Powers, New York Times bestselling author Aaron Reynolds visited last week. Ms. Powers commented, "His energy with the kids was infectious!"

Giving three fantastic presentations to pre-k through fourth grade students, he highlighted his books, writing process, and common questions he is asked. He also read and performed his newest title, Dude!, and signed more than 200 books for students that will be treasured reminders of his visit.

Previous authors include Neal Shusterman, author of the Everlost and Unwind trilogies; Caldecott honorees Janet Stevens and Susan Stevens Crummel; two-time Newbery-honor winner Gary D. Schmidt; award-winning artist and author Tedd Arnold; and multiple award-winner Steven Kellogg. Author visits are funded in part by money raised during the annual book fair, sponsored by the St. John's Parents Association.
