Last week, seventh grade students at St. John's Episcopal School had an educational adventure in Galveston. On the way, the group, enjoyed a picnic lunch at Brazos Bend State Park. The afternoon's activities included a visit to the George Observatory, where students navigated a trip to space in a hands-on launch simulation. On Thursday, students headed to the Battleship Texas, which took part in some of the most significant Naval battles of both world wars. Following a tour of the ship, students visited the San Jacinto Battleground, where Texas won its independence in 1836. The group spent the afternoon at Galveston Island State Park, where they ventured into the salt marsh, learning about the intertwining of species within the bay ecosystems. They spent the last day at Texas A&M Galveston, where they heard a presentation about the anatomy of sharks and their role in ocean life. This was followed by a shark dissection, which coincides with the students' learning in science class.
