Culture Fest 2018, hosted by St. John's Episcopal School, was a great learning experience for all in attendance. Last week’s event was the largest Culture Fest yet with 19 booths. We are grateful for the parents, faculty and student groups who hosted the booths, and for the performers who helped make this annual event very special.

Organized by teachers Monica Breeding and Morgan Martinez and parent Audra Chavis, the event originated five years ago to introduce students to different countries, foods and lifestyles that make up our school community and beyond. The countries and cultures represented were Ireland, Sweden, Nigeria, Italy, Lebanon, Philippines, Argentina, Mexico, Germany, Japan, Norway, Uganda, Southern Africa, Africa and one table taught origami techniques.

Rich with information, the individual tables offered samples of native cuisine, artifacts, decorations and props. Attendees were able to visit each table and learn something about a new culture - or even learn something new about a culture with which they were already familiar.

In addition, Leo the African drummer entertained and engaged the children with his enthusiasm, songs, rhythms and drums. German entertainers demonstrated traditional clothes and dances. And students enjoyed the group dance lessons offered by a St. John's parent. Games included animals of the world "estimation stations" and cultural trivia. Check out pictures from the fun event.
