There's nothing like a day at White Rock Lake Park.

Whether you're relaxing by watching the water gently lap at the shoreline or taking an early morning jog on one of the trails, White Rock Lake is the perfect place to escape from the stresses of city life. But the beautiful East Dallas park often bears the brunt of being an oasis in such an urban environment—plastic bottles, wrappers and other trash can be left behind or blown in from other areas.

To keep the park in pristine condition, the organization, For the Love of the Lake, spends the second Saturday of every month cleaning up the trash that litters the shoreline of the lake.

The public is invited to help out each month. This month's "Shoreline Spruce Up" will be Saturday, October 13. Volunteers should meet at the FTLOTL office, located at 381 Casa Linda Plaza, between 8 and 9 a.m. There, you'll get all the supplies you need to keep the park clean—trash bags, recycling bags, gloves, and reach-it tools—plus some sustenance—Starbucks coffee, juice, snacks and other yummy goodies. After gearing up and chowing down, you'll trek over to the lake and start picking up.

Stick around post clean-up for the "Volunteer Appreciation Picnic" at Sunset Bay. Volunteers can enjoy food and fun from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event goes on, rain or shine.
