Lakehill Students Enjoy Serving Others

On February 1, Upper School students participated in Lakehill Preparatory School's eighth annual Day of Service. Each class has a designated organization to serve, so that, by the end of Upper School, they will have worked with all four groups. This year, students and faculty logged more than 500 hours of service to their community before returning to campus.

The freshman class sorted and packed thousands of diapers for Hope Supply Co., an organization dedicated to providing for the needs of homeless children in the area. Freshman Spencer Friesen thought the experience helped him to become closer to his peers and allowed the class to work together toward a common goal. "I was amazed by the impact we could make working for just a few hours," he said. Sophomores visited the Brady Center where they interacted with senior citizens, talking, playing bingo, and dancing. Sophomore Maya Ariss enjoyed hearing stories from the senior citizens, while Tristan Leach had fun dancing. "I was really surprised by their dancing skills," he said.

Juniors helped sort and box food at the North Texas Food Bank, packing six pallets with more than 5,400 pounds of food, enough for 4,500 meals, for hungry North Texas families. "I really enjoyed helping people, especially when I was able to see the impact we were able to make,” said junior Preston Bied.

Seniors joined forces with Reading Partners, to provide tutoring to students in three elementary schools in DISD. Senior Natalie Sevilla enjoyed interacting with the children she tutored. "Seeing them improve over such a short period of time was immensely rewarding.”
