Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Dallas is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year and the distinction of being the oldest church in Dallas.

A special worship service will be held on June 23 at 5 p.m. at 700 Ross Avenue, the site of the original church in Dallas’ Historic West End District.

All are invited to join members of the congregation and friends of the church for old-fashioned gospel singing and revival-style preaching. Special guests will be on hand to help mark this memorable occasion as historically significant. All in attendance will receive a souvenir hand fan.

Organized in 1863, the church held services in the pastor’s log cabin home and later in the records building of the Dallas County Court House.

In 1867, the church built a small meeting house (the first church building) two blocks from the courthouse in an area that is now called The West End Historic District.

To commemorate where the original church once stood, a Texas Historical marker was installed on a two-story red brick building at 703 Ross Ave. on December 4, 1938—a building that once housed the city police station and jail.

Following the special anniversary worship, dinner will be enjoyed at The Old Spaghetti Warehouse, located just across the street from the site. (Order from the restaurant’s regular dinner menu and pay for your own food).

If you would like to attend the worship service and/or the dinner, please RSVP to the church office at (214) 526-7291 so that a head count may be attained.

Today, Central Christian is located at 4711 Westside Drive in Dallas. The campus sits on a 5.9 acre-lot accommodating a meditation garden, community dog park, soccer field and community vegetable garden. The dog park is open to the public.

Central Christian invites everyone to join them at their regular Sunday morning 11 a.m. worship service. For more information, visit the church website.
