How to Support Your Health While Working From Home

Over the past year, most of us have moved to working remotely as a way of maintaining social distance and protecting our health. Undoubtedly, working from home can bring many benefits to our personal and work life. Although these benefits can come easily, maintaining good health while working from home can be challenging. However, the following tips can help you to support your health and wellness while working from home:

1. Set up an ergonomic workstation.

We need a comfortable working space where we can work without interruptions or distractions. Thus, when working from home, we need to find a space we can claim as our own until we resume our offices. This space may be one end of the dining area or a corner out of the way — but wherever it is, make sure you can work somewhere where distractions will remain minimal. It’s important to perceive our home working space as a safe space just for us, where we can focus, make our phone calls, and get our work done without interruptions.

2. Wear blue light glasses.

When working, we spend more time staring at our computers and other digital screens. Blue light glasses protect your eyes by filtering potentially damaging blue light. This can prevent eye strain and migraines.

3. Take walks during the day.

Make a point to leave your house without our cars, at least once per day. Whether you take time to walk for a mile, move up and down stairs, or do a few laps around our kitchen, those movements during the day will sum up for the better.

4. Limit snacking.

A full pantry and refrigerator can result in a disaster when working remotely. To avoid unhealthy and unnecessary snacking, plan your meals and snacks ahead of time. Buy nutritious items such as fruits and nuts and make them easily accessible so that you can quickly grab them. This will make sure you’re taking in important nutrients that will keep your body healthy and support your immune system.

5. Practice good hygiene.

You may become tempted to forego our showers and stay around in our pajamas all day as you continue to work from home. Since this habit might affect your productivity, try to shower before starting work and dress up nicely to shift your brain into “work mode.”

6. Prioritize mental health.

We can easily neglect our mental health while working from home. However, by integrating wellness and healthy choices in our workday, we will become healthier, happier, and more productive remote workers. If you need some ideas on how to ease your mind after a long day, consider yoga, working on a creative project, or reading a book.
