As a choice school, Woodrow Wilson High accepts applications for transfer for its four college prep academies from outside its attendance zone and the DISD boundaries.  On November 19, the annual Welcome to Woodrow informational open house was held.

A presentation in the auditorium was held first, where Principal Kyle Richardson announced, “we are the top comprehensive high school in Dallas. The others are not even close”.  He then cited SAT, STAAR scores and other measures.  After outlining some of the schools many academic and extracurricular offerings, the crowd attended breakout sessions for information on each of the four college prep academies at the school:  Business, Entrepreneurship and Finance; Creative and Performing Arts; International Baccalaureate and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. After those sessions, which were held in various venues from the historic library to the new black box theater,  attendees adjourned to the top-floor cafeteria, where various organizations had information tables. Faculty and students met with those interested.

At the overflow sessions for International Baccalaureate, several students and teachers spoke. Students explained their achievements in English, French and Chinese.  Of those, one student had lived in France for three years before coming to Woodrow for IB, one transferred from Highland Park High School and another from Bishop Lynch High School.

IB Coordinator Dr. Kelly Ritchie released the details for this year’s application process.  All applications and documents are due by 4 pm on January 23, 2015.  Then applicants will be required to sit for on-site writing sessions on January 28 or 29 in the Woodrow library.  For information, go to http://woodrowwildcats.org/ib/
