Spring UIL Contest 2016

Yesterday morning  was a nervous and rather quiet day on the 2 buses leaving East Dallas and headed to Waxahachie for the Region 20 Music Band Concert and Sight Reading Contest.  No one was really sure if it was the student's nerves or concentration or perhaps studying their music or other subjects, but the ride was quieter than most other trips this group has taken.  Upon arriving at Waxahachie High School the Woodrow Wildcat Band students unloaded their instruments and parents assisted in straightening out collars and ties.  The group looked sharp!  At 11:30 AM the Wildcat band took the stage for their musical stage performance as a 5-A Varsity Band for the very first time!  The musical selections were played meticulously and sounded enchanting to the people in the audience.  The performance appeared to go seamlessly.  Upon completing the stage performance, the Wildcat Band proceeded to the back band Hall of Waxahachie High School to perform their sight reading part of the contest.  For those of you that are not familiar with band, what this means is that the Band Director and students are given music by the judges that neither have probably ever seen before.  The director, in this case Mr. Chris Evetts, has approximately 5 minutes to convey and relay the music to all 80+ students to make sure it sounds good!  Again, the Wildcat Band did not disappoint.  In the end, after big sighs of relief were exhaled by both students and parent chaperones...the results came back.  The Woodrow Wildcat Band celebrated the announcement from Mr. Evetts that they achieved all 1's on their stage concert performance and all 2's on their sight reading performance.  This is the first time in the school's history that the band has performed on the 5-A level and final rankings show that the Woodrow Wildcat band was the FIRST PLACE band out of all the DISD schools that performed in this contest!  YES, the Woodrow Wildcat Band beat out Bryan Adams, Thomas Jefferson and Adamson for this honor!!  Kudos to the students for making yesterday a great part of Woodrow Wilson High School History!
