To celebrate the end of construction on Lower Greenville, several of the stores will be throwing a progressive block party on Saturday, December 10 all along Lower Greenville. There will be plenty of shows that are free to attend and multiple stores will have food, drink and merchandise on sale for discounted prices.
Aside from all the shows and food, there will also be special events available - face painting for kids, a wing-eating contest and caricature portraits to name a few. Attendees can expect to hear songs from a wide range of bands that includes Dove Hunter, Cover Brothers and Blind Irish. And don't worry about showing up any specific time; the event is expected to run from 3:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m.
As big and crazy as the progressive block party is going to be, it's only just a "soft opening" for the planned first annual Lowest Greenville Block Party that is scheduled for spring of 2012.
City Councilmember Angela Hunt said, "I'm thrilled with the streetscape improvements - they make Lower Greenville much more inviting and safer for pedestrians. Now let's support our businesses that have stuck through all the construction!"
