The Texas Education Agency released the results of the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) testing conducted in 2010-2011 and Dallas ISD did not fare well. 43 DISD schools received an Academically Unacceptable rating, including Woodrow Wilson High School and J.L. Middle School in Lakewood.

In order for a school to be rated Academically Unacceptable by the Texas Education Agency, one subgroup (African-American, Hispanic, white, American Indian, Asian, Pacific Islander, 'two or more races' or 'economically disadvantaged') to perform below 50-percent on Reading, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies or the tests combined in two of the past three years.

Things aren't likely to get much easier for Dallas ISD schools. The board is still trying to balance the budget and are contemplating several controversial plans, such as closing 11 schools and possibly cutting even more teaching positions. However, Woodrow's offering of IB courses should help the school's rating in the long run.
