SOME SPOTS STILL AVAILABLE!

Woodrow Wilson's Cheerleaders have a few spots left for this summer's popular Mini Cheer Camp.  

The camp is from Monday, July 24 to Friday, July 28, and is held at Woodrow Wilson High School.  Application attached.

The camp is hosted by Woodrow's JV and Varsity cheerleaders and features cheer routines, crafts, snacks, a camp t-shirt, and an opportunity to cheer with the WWHS cheerleaders at a Woodrow football game during half time!

Woodrow's cheerleaders are saying good bye to their beloved cheer coach of 12 years, International Baccalaureate English instructor Aariona Ferguson, as she ventures on to a new passion to sponsor.  The girls will always be reminded of her wonderful spirit, as she guided them to be not just good, but excellent athletes.

Coach "Ferg" says that it has been rewarding to see the skills the girls learned in mini camps in years past perfected so they can compete without delay at the state level, as Cheer becomes a UIL Title IX sport. 

Her advice for aspiring cheerleaders is to continue to start as early as possible, and enroll in any kind of gymnastics, dance, or tumbling.  She advises the girls stay physically active all of their lives, as cheerleaders are true athletes whose physical skills transcend most sports.  Start auditioning for cheer in middle school, as being comfortable in an audition speaks volumes to the judges.  And of course, SMILE -- it's contagious!

The new Woodrow head cheer coach, Blythe Mundlin, AP English instructor, is excited to continue with Coach Ferg's guidance and is looking forward to a fantastic year.  As Cheerleading is on its’ way to being a UIL sport, there will be many advantages for our cheerleaders besides being funded through DISD, as college scholarships and grants become available for them.
