M Streets Church Holds 10th-Annual Global Village Market

A little more than 10 years ago, Greenland Hills United Methodist Church had an idea: Why not create a space for local and global non-profits to come together, offering a weekend of gifts that give back?

Since that time, this annual gathering under the trees of this little Austin stone church in the M Streets has raised $234,572 for non-profits all over the world. From Mommies in Need (a Dallas non-profit that provides childcare for families going through a major medical crisis like cancer) to Congo Restoration (a sewing school in Eastern Congo, providing marketable skills for women living in the rape capital of the world), Global Village Market offers hand-made items and donation opportunities you can’t get at the mall.

Throw in homemade pie, food trucks, live music, and dogs up for adoption, and you get an amazing weekend, kicking off the holiday season.

This year, 27 non-profits will be represented at the Market, including Ten Thousand Villages, Chase's Place, Habitat for Humanity/El Salvador, Heifer Project, Paper for Water, and Reading Partners. Global Village Market is from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday, Nov. 5; noon to 3 pm on Sunday, Nov. 6.
