Martial Arts Studio Kicking Off Grand Opening in Lakewood

From Karate Kid to Kung Fu Panda, almost every generation can remember watching some of those famous martial arts movies and many may have also wondered, "Could I do that?”.

Here’s your chance to find out-for free.  Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense is celebrating the grand opening of its new Lakewood location on Saturday, August 27th. With a variety of free classes, free food, free beer, raffles and live music, the event will have something for every age group.

Program Director Kellyn Laurinski said some of the more popular free activities include a women’s self-defense class and a board-breaking activity for kids.

Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense, which teaches Kenpo Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, Judo and Self Defense courses, opened its first Dallas location in 1993. Since then at least 10 smaller satellite locations have popped up around the DFW metroplex.  Laurinski said a variety of factors were behind the decision to open up a second main location in Lakewood.

“We have a good, strong base of students who live in Lakewood. Plus we really love the community, the studio is in a great location,” Laurinski said.

Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense is also getting a warm welcome from other local businesses. Matt’s Rancho Martinez, Penne Pomodoro, Angelo’s, Paciugo, Whole Foods, 7-11, and others have all donated gift cards and prizes which will be raffled off to lucky attendees on Saturday.

“We’ve really had a lot of good support from area businesses, it’s been great,” Laurinksi said.

Free introductory classes kick off at 7:15 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. The ribbon cutting ceremony and party are from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Click here to find out the exact times and specifics for each class.

Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense is located at 2114 Kidwell Street in Lakewood.
