Woodrow Wilson Football Meets Highland Park In Area Playoff Clash

The Woodrow Wilson football pummelled Molina High School last week with a final score of 49-0. However, this week, their opponent is on the opposite end of the football spectrum. Highland Park High School is a perennial 4A football powerhouse and is currently undefeated this season. If the Wildcats hope to continue their playoff push, they'll have to overcome the huge obstacle that is the Fighting Scots.

The Highland Park offense is a well-oiled machine but the Wildcats are no slouches on offense either and it's likely the match-up between these two teams will become a high-scoring affair. The Scots have scored 40 or more points in eight of their games this season while the Wildcats have accomplished that feat six times.

The game will come down to the quarterback and running back of both teams. Quarterback Piers Christian has had an impressive season, both through the air and on the ground. He has thrown for over 1,700 yards, rushed for over 750 yards and has 30 total touchdowns to his name. Running back Shaquille Dottin has been a lethal force on the ground, amassing nearly 1,300 yards and 21 touchdowns on the season.

Scots quarterback Brady Burgin isn't as big of a threat to run as Christian but he more than makes up for it with his arm. Following in the footsteps of great Highland Park quarterbacks, Burgin has completed 221 passes for 2,928 yards and 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions. His running back, Preston Miller, has posted nearly identical stats to Dottin; he's rushed for 1,185 yards and 22 touchdowns.

The Woodrow passing game has only one true receiving threat in wide receiver Andre Plata, who has caught 50 passes for 840 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Scots, on the other hand, have two big passing targets in William Morris and Hunter Halpin. Morris has 71 receptions and over 1,000 yards receiving while Halpin has caught 45 passes for 752 yards. Combined, the two have caught 18 touchdown passes.

This game promises to be an exciting match-up between two of the top 4A football teams in the area. The game will be played on Friday, November 18 at Wildcat-Ram Stadium in Lake Highlands with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The winner of this game will go on to play the winner of Tyler John Tyler/Pflugerville Hendrickson.
