If you're a big fan of self-service checkout lines, then you're going to be unpleasantly surprised because Albertson's is planning on removing its self-service checkout lines and Kroger is also considering the same change. Rick Wamre of the Advocate reported that Albertson's is removing self-checkout lines from all its stores beginning next month.
According to Wamre, both Albertson's and Kroger are thinking of adopting "metro lanes," similar to what Central Market does. The lines are usually longer but people move through it much more quickly due to fewer items and and better trained cashiers.
