Haley York and Abi Price celebrate a recent victory.

The Varsity Volleyball team defeated Longview Trinity at Tuesday's annual Dig Pink match. The stands were packed and the team did not disappoint.

Sophomore Claire Crow contributed 20 assists and eleven aces while fellow sophomore Abi Price led the team with nine kills on the night and senior Haley York chipped in eleven digs on defense.

The victory put the team at 9-0 in district, securing Lakehill's first District Championship since 2001. The Varsity Volleyball team is going into its last game of the district season looking to achieve something that has never been done in Lakehill history: be the first Lakehill Volleyball team to finish as undefeated District Champs. While other Lakehill teams have captured the District title, none have done so while being undefeated in district play.

The team is currently 22-2 and is riding the momentum of an 18-game winning streak into the last home district game of the season. With a victory, the team will finish the regular season with the best volleyball record in school history.

"During spring practices, I told the girls that we had a good, if not a better, chance of winning a District Championship than last year's team. From that point on, it has been our goal and mindset to finish what we started last season," explained Head Coach Johanna Cayme-Mosley. "I've never seen a group so driven to succeed. I don't have to motivate this team day in and day out. I can honestly say that I think I have the hardest working team in the district. They have earned and worked for everything they have achieved this year."

Award winner Laura Wildman with English teacher India Miles.

Laura Wildman, an eighth-grade student at Lakehill Preparatory School, recently won a writing contest for a poem she submitted during the seventh grade.

Creative Communication, which sponsors annual poetry and essay contests, will publish Laura's work in their upcoming student anthology. "I am so honored to have been recognized for my poem. I wouldn't have even thought of entering if it wasn't for the support and encouragement of my wonderful English teachers," said Laura.

During last year's English class, Laura's then teacher, Mrs. Miles, was incredibly impressed with Laura's writing acumen and delivery. "We were studying spoken word during our poetry unit and Laura volunteered to share a poem she'd written. Her creative talent blew me away, and I knew then I wanted to help her garner more attention for her writing abilities."

According to the organization's website, Creative Communication judges select poems and essays based on the work's "literary merit, creativity, or social significance." Creative writing contests such as these are great opportunities for interested students to pursue or explore their talent. Famous country-pop singer Taylor Swift was a Top Ten winner for Creative Communication when she was a fifth grade student.

With a little preparation and research, parents can narrow down the vast array of choices when it comes to picking a school for their child. One of the best ways for families to become acquainted with a prospective school is to attend an open house during the school day. Spend some time on campus, see how the faculty and students interact, and how the children treat each other.

To give families an opportunity to spend some time on campus, Lakehill Preparatory School offers a series of informative Admission Previews throughout the fall.

The first Preview will be held on Tuesday, October 21. "We have had a tremendous response already to this year's Previews and inquiries in general," explained Lisa Bracken, Director of Admission. "It is exciting to watch our Lakehill community grow."

Admission Previews provide an in-depth overview for parents considering a Lakehill education for their children. Guests hear from administrators, visit classrooms, and tour the school with Student Ambassadors.

Six previews are scheduled for the fall, each geared to a specific division.
Lower School Previews: October 21 and November 11

Middle School Preview: October 28
Kindergarten Preview: November 5
and
 December 9

Upper School Preview: November 18

In addition, a Freshman Visit Day will be held on January 23 for incoming ninth graders. Kindergarten, Lower, and Middle School programs are held on the main campus at 9:30 a.m. The Upper School Preview will be held at Lakehill's Alice and Erle Nye Environmental Science Center at 6:30 p.m.

Reservations can be made by calling 214-826-2931 or via email at visit@lakehillprep.org.

"Our current Lakehill families are a wonderful source of information as well," said Bracken. "When prospective parents call for a tour, I often hear them say they've heard great things about Lakehill from a parent at the school. Please continue the grassroots effort of sharing all that Lakehill has to offer with your friends and colleagues!"
