Lakehill's junior class carried on a long-standing tradition on December 12 with the school's annual Holiday Parade and Reindeer Games.

Since 1976, when it was known as the Junior Parade, the junior class stages the event for the benefit of the Lower School children. Students lined the hallways in anticipation of the dancing reindeer, joyful elves, and Santa and Mrs. Claus. After the parade, juniors led the Lower School students onto the practice field for Reindeer Games, including "Red Light Green Light," "Santa Says," and an afternoon of holiday fun.

Santa and Mrs. Claus join PFC President Tricia McCaleb and Headmaster Roger Perry.

Christmas came early at Lakehill Preparatory School this year, with the arrival of a new bus on December 11. The bus was purchased largely with funds raised from the Parent Faculty Club's spring Benefit Auction. PFC President Tricia McCaleb joined Mr. Perry and Santa and Mrs. Claus for the celebrated arrival.

"We are extremely grateful to our Auction Chairs, Christy Van Duinen and Kelli Powell, for chairing last year's event and to the PFC for their tireless efforts on behalf of the school. This gift is something that will benefit every child at Lakehill for many years to come," said Headmaster Roger Perry.

The new bus, which features the Lakehill colors and logo, holds 32 students and is wheelchair accessible. The bus will be used to transport students to the ESC, to athletic events, on field trips, and to other school activities. Lakehill's transportation needs have continued to grow since the last bus was donated in 2009 by the PFC.

Lakehill is grateful to parents and community members who supported the auction and helped make this much-needed gift possible.

Holiday Luncheon

For nearly 30 years, on a special Friday in December, Lakehill Preparatory School has continued a holiday tradition that remains in the hearts of attendees long after the apple pie is finished.

Lakehill's annual Holiday Luncheon brings elderly residents from around east Dallas to the Lakehill campus to share the spirit of the season with the Lakehill family. This year's event, held on December 12, continued the much anticipated tradition.

Members of Lakehill's senior class, along with their parents and class sponsors, joined forces with the entire Upper School to provide a memorable holiday experience for senior citizens. The senior class decorated the cafeteria and served as hosts, hostesses, and food servers while their parents prepared the meal and staffed the kitchen. Juniors, dressed as elves, reindeer, and Santa and Mrs. Claus, visited with guests and posed for pictures. Sophomores served as photographers, giving guests a framed photo as they left the luncheon. Freshman decorated the Commons and hosted the guests for refreshments after their meal. Students from numerous classes sang holiday songs during the luncheon. Students in all grade levels helped by donating the items that were used to fill the stockings that Sisteens prepared for each guest.

Many of these guests are regular attendees who look forward to the luncheon every year. Tasty food, good music, and enjoyable conversations with the students seemed to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Headmaster Roger Perry explained, "The Holiday Luncheon is a wonderful tradition that truly reinforces the meaning of the holidays. For many guests, this special annual event is the highlight of their holiday season. We also hear time and time again from our alumni that the Holiday Luncheon is their most treasured memory of their time at Lakehill."

Coaches from each of the four districts in Texas met this week to bestow All-State Football honors. Lakehill set a new school record, with seven total awards to four players: five awards for All-State football and two additional awards for Academic All-State.

All-State Football Honors

Cole Ellis - First Team All-State Tight End

Brandon Bartholow - Second Team All-State Running Back

Brandon Douglas - Honorable Mention All-State Defensive Line

Carlos Lopez, III - Honorable Mention All-State Defensive Back

Brandon Bartholow - Honorable Mention All-State Linebacker

Academic All-State
Brandon Douglas - Academic All-State

Carlos Lopez, III - Academic All-State

All-State awards are strictly based on on-field performance, and players are voted on by a group of coaches that represent TAPPS districts state-wide. Players must have made First Team All-District to even have a chance for consideration of All-State honors.
Players recognized with Academic All-State must have been named to First or Second Team All-District and have over a 90 average. Douglas and Lopez both maintained the necessary GPA and were named to First Team All-District.

"I can't think of a more deserving group of guys to represent Lakehill on the 2014 All-State football list," said Varsity Football Coach Chris Peacock. "They worked hard in the weight room, at practice, and on Friday nights. But more importantly, they worked hard at being solid team leaders, through their words and their actions. Making an All-State team is one of the highest honors a high school athlete can achieve. We're very proud of what these four guys have accomplished."

When hundreds of people take to the streets for a good cause, a lot can happen.

Lakehill Preparatory School's 16th Annual Trek for Tech, the Parent Faculty Club's signature fall event, combined all the right elements: two great races, dedicated sponsors, enthusiastic volunteers, a raffle with fantastic prizes, live music, and beautiful weather. The results were a great time for all who attended and a lot of money raised to purchase new technology.

Students, families, and faculty members put their best foot forward in the one-mile Fun Run, while a large crowd hit the pavement for the 5K chip-timed race. Attendees were also treated to a live performance by the band [sic] muzik featuring Lakehill students Brandon Douglas and Varun Iyer.

Triathlete and trainer to several Lakehill students, Samuel Law was the first place overall male for the second consecutive year with a time of 18:38. Seventh-grade parent Christell Baum was the top overall female runner with a time of 21:14.

The top finishing Lakehill students were Warren Lester with a time of 21:19 and Niamh McKinney, with a time of 27:24.

Organizers report that 437 people registered for this year's races, an increase over last year. The Trek Committee is still counting the dollars raised through sponsorships, registrations, and technology purchases.

Back this year was the Pasta Dinner, a carb-loading celebration held on Friday evening before the race at the Nye Family Environmental Science Center. For $5, diners enjoyed a delicious pasta and pizza dinner donated by Prego Pasta House. Guests were also treated to a musical performance during dinner by the band Thrills, featuring Lakehill seniors Camille Willaford and Erin Boyce.

The Trek Committee thanks those companies, individuals, and families who supported the race through underwriting and equipment purchases, and the faculty, NJHS, and parent volunteers who helped the event run smoothly.

Lakehill thanks John and Karen Owen for chairing this event and for their efforts in making Trek for Tech a huge success!

Kason Burt and Gerard Franklin.

The Lakehill Warriors traveled to cross-town rival Tyler Street Christian on Thursday in a contest that would determine district runner-up.

Tyler Street jumped out to a quick 20-0 first half lead, but the Warriors fought their way back into it with touchdown catches by senior Cole Ellis and junior Kevin Lantz. The Crusaders held a 32-14 halftime lead, but Lakehill went on a long offensive march to start the second half. Tyler Street made a key defensive stop deep in their territory, and the momentum quickly shifted. The Crusaders added several touchdowns, and the Warriors tacked on a touchdown run by freshman Gerard Franklin making the final score 53-20, with Tyler Street clinching second place with the victory.

Lakehill finishes a successful regular season with a 7-3 record (2-2 district) and advances to the Area Round of the TAPPS State Playoffs. The Warriors will take on San Antonio Castle Hills First Baptist at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 15. The game will be played at Mt. Sacred Heart in San Antonio.

Lakehill children show off their costumes before the parade.
Lower School ghouls and goblins showed off their costumes on October 31 during Lakehill Preparatory School's annual Halloween parade. Second grade student Jack Curtis led the procession down the main hallway and through the building, before continuing to the field for the Carnival. The coveted position of Parade Leader was sold at last year's PFC Benefit Auction. Parents, students, and faculty members lined the hallways to cheer on the children.

Following the parade, the Parent Faculty Club (PFC) hosted the eagerly anticipated Halloween Carnival, complete with a cookie walk, two bounce houses, face painting, and fortune teller.

"We had wonderful volunteers and great participation," said PFC President Tricia McCaleb. "I especially want to recognize Lydia Perry and Lacie Kuhn, who did such a great job organizing the Carnival. Everyone had a great time."
