The Varsity Volleyball team’s season ended in the Area Round of the TAPPS State Playoffs on Tuesday, November 1, with a loss to Denton Calvary. The team finished the season with a 14-9 record. Head coaches from each district school met to select the All-District teams for the 2022 season.

The 2022 Varsity football season was cut short with the last three games being canceled due to weather. "I have never been more proud of a team! Due to our smaller roster this season, the football players truly had to be Warriors in every way," said Head Coach Jairus Mitchell.

Five Warriors, including Austin Sanders, Kelvin Walker, Louis Descarpentries, Luke Widhalm, and Ian Johnston, had to grow leaps and bounds this season! Each one of them grew into an amazing leader on and off the field. Nicholas Meadows stepped up as a leader like never before. Despite only playing in three district games, Anthony McRae earned 2nd Team Spread Back and 2nd Team Linebacker. Austin Boothe earned 2nd Team Running Back. Max Byrd earned 2nd team Wide Receiver and Defensive Back. Newcomer Ethan Westerberg received an honorable mention for kicker.

"Big shout out to Ma'ki Shaw! Ma'ki was my only freshman player when I started and my only senior this season. I have watched him turn into a leader and I can't wait to see all that this young man has in store for his future."

Students in Lakehill's Lower School recently unveiled their artistic entries for the 16th annual Triangle Rules Poster Contest.

 

Each Fall, students participate in a contest to illustrate the three rules that form the Lower School Code of Behavior. Known as the Triangle Rules, the Respect Rule, the Safety Rule, and the Welcome Rule ensure a pleasant environment for all students to learn and grow.

 

This year, nearly half of Lower School submitted posters to the contest, a record of more than 60 posters! Posters were examined and votes were cast by the Lakehill faculty, staff, and administration to determine which posters best exemplified the Triangle Rules. 

 

Winners were announced on November 2 during an assembly in the auditorium. Head of Lower School John Trout and Assistant Head of School Patti Frullo presented the awards.  

 

This year's winners were:

1st Place: Alexa King Marvin, third grade

2nd Place: Moses Wolff, second grade

3rd Place Tie: Nick Shultz, third grade

3rd Place Tie: Sid Shanks, fourth grade

4th Place Tie: Archer Ware, fourth grade

Mu Alpha Theta (Mathematics), Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish), Société Honoraire de Français (French), Rho Kappa (Social Studies), Science National Honor Society, National Honor Society, and National Junior Honor Society. Lakehill's student honor societies held their induction ceremonies on April 24 in Lakehill's Charles J. Wyly, Jr. Auditorium. These groups welcomed 60 inductees into their illustrious ranks. The ceremony was led by faculty members Bradley Neyland, Joan Mayo, Julie Murugen, Kristin Rutherford, Cristi McCarty, Zelie Jeanvoine, Kevin Cobb, Jeremy Holman, and Richard Jaggers along with administration members Ms. Patti Frullo and Mr. Art Hall.
 
Membership in Mu Alpha Theta at Lakehill is reserved for juniors and seniors who have maintained a 3.5 average or better in all math classes. Spanish and French honorees must complete at least three years of the language and maintain an average of 3.5 or higher. Rho Kappa honorees must have completed four semesters of Social Studies, maintain a 3.0 overall G.P.A. and a 3.5 in all high school Social Studies classes. 
 
Membership in the Science National Honor Society is awarded to juniors and seniors who have maintained a 3.0 in all coursework, have taken or are enrolled in at least one Advanced AP Science class (juniors) or one advanced course and one AP course or two AP courses (seniors), and maintain a 3.5 average in all science courses. 
 
Members of these highly regarded organizations wear honor cords at graduation.

This year's Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica inductees were Ashton Abbott-Sharifi, James Freeman, Megan Gillman, Zak Goldstein, Leo Paparoni, Sydney Rutherford, and Kat Seale.

Last year, Lakehill student Mitchell Crow was at Target stocking up on supplies ahead of the February winter storm that brought snow, ice, and widespread power outages across North Texas. He saw a homeless shelter near the store and that is when he began collecting money and supplies to donate to the shelter.
 
This year, Mitchell and fellow senior Cullen McCaleb were at it again. Collectively, Mitchell and Cullen posted on Snapchat and Instagram that they were collecting money and supplies to donate to the Austin Street Center prior to this year’s winter storm. Overall, they collected over $1,500 via Snapchat and Instagram. Mitchell and Cullen spent every penny and bought goods and dropped them off prior to the storm mid-February. 
 
With true Warrior hearts, a special thanks to Mitchell and Cullen for continuing to make Lakehill proud.

On February 26, Lakehill Preparatory School's Robotics team headed out to the FIRST North Texas Regionals Competition at Woodrow Wilson High School.
 
The Lakehill Bionicles and their robot, Lewa, placed 8th among the 40 teams participating in the Regionals Competition, winning 3 out of the 5 matches they competed in and taking in over 852 points. In each match, the team was randomly paired with an alliance partner to compete against two other teams. Lewa had to complete tasks such as autonomous movement, intaking, moving game pieces, and driving over difficult terrain.
 
The whole competition was a team effort. Throughout the day, team members drove the robot, helped other teams, adjusted code, made alliances with other teams, fixed robot parts that broke, and spoke to judges about their experience in FIRST.
 
During the awards ceremony at the end of the competition, the team won 3rd place in the Innovate Award, awarded for teams who use their creativity and ingenuity to think outside the box. Winning 3rd place Innovate was a huge milestone for the team because this is the first time the team has received the Innovate award at the Regionals Competition.

For members of the Lakehill family, serving the community is not only a part of our mission, but it is who we are. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world around us, yet the answer is even more clear: Continue to give back to the Dallas community. 
 
For the 13th year in a row, Lakehill students Emory Johnston and Ethan Westerberg delivered Meals on Wheels to the Dallas community on MLK day. “Ethan and I look forward to this day every year,” said Emory. “We have done this with our families every year since I can remember, and it is always a fun day serving the community.”
 
This year, Ethan, Emory, and their families did things slightly different. They ordered chicken fingers, collard greens, and mac and cheese, Martin Luther King, Jr’s favorite foods so that an additional meal would be provided. On top of the meal, they tied a note and ribbon in celebration of Dr. King’s life and legacy.
 
“We love to serve our community, but it has become so much more,” said Ethan. “It is tradition!” Ethan and Emory laughed and shared stories for a few minutes on Wednesday afternoon. “One year we knocked on a door and discovered that a lady was celebrating her 100th birthday! They invited us inside, and we sang happy birthday and took photos with her.”
 
Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday, is observed on the third Monday of January each year. Dr. King was an influential civil rights leader known for serving his community. Thanks, Emory, Ethan, and all our Warriors who honor Dr. King by serving the Dallas community throughout the year.

Lakehill students welcomed more than 100 seniors citizens from all over the Dallas area to the annual Holiday Luncheon on December 10. Each Upper School student played a large role in ensuring this event took place for our guests.
 
Throughout the drive-thru, guests received a framed photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a stocking filled with small gifts made by Middle School Community Connections Club members, and a pre-packaged holiday meal.
 
Triste Vasquez-White, Program Director of the Foster Grandparent program wanted to share a message of gratitude to Lakehill students: "Thank you so much (again!) for including us in this event. We are always so impressed by the hard work, dedication, and kindness of your students."

On December 4, Lakehill Preparatory School's Robotics team made its debut at the FIRST Tech Challenge Qualifier at Marcus High School. The FIRST Robotics Competition is an international high school robotics competition that gives students real-world engineering experience. The Lakehill Bionicles and their robot, Lewa, placed 16th among the 22 scheduled participants from across North Texas.
 
The Lakehill Bionicles won 2 out of the 6 matches they competed in. In each match, the team was randomly paired with an alliance partner to compete against two other teams. Lewa had to complete tasks such as autonomous movement, intaking, moving game pieces, and driving over difficult terrain. 
 
The whole competition was a team effort. Throughout the day, team members drove the robot, helped other teams, adjusted code, made alliances with other teams, fixed robot parts that broke, and spoke to judges about their experience in FIRST. 
 
During the awards ceremony at the end of the competition, the team won 2nd place in the Think Award, which is an award for the application of science and math principles in the building/design of the robot. Lakehill Bionicles won 1st place in the Control Award, an award for the usage of sensors and programming ingenuity, and also won 2nd place in the Inspire Award. The Inspire Award is the overall award for the competition - strong field performance, design, programming, outreach/business programs, and judging. Due to the Inspire Award, the Lakehill Bionicles have qualified for the Regional Competition!
 
The team can’t wait to compete in the next competition on January 29 as well as the regional competition on February 26.  Thank you to all of the teachers, mentors, sponsors, and outreach partners for helping this competition go successfully and smoothly.

The Head of School, Art Hall, of Lakehill Preparatory School announced last week that Blake Perry has been named a Commended Student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented by the Head of School to this scholastically talented senior.
 
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2022 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2022 competition by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
 
"Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."
