The Lakehill Varsity Warrior football team ran their record to 2-0 on Friday with a 58-12 victory over Savoy. The Varsity Warriors were led by Ben Palmer and Gerard Franklin, who combined for six touchdowns and 400 yards of total offense.

Several Warrior defenders stood out in this game. Palmer had 10 tackles, Ryan Henry, eight; and Avery Meiteen, seven. Meiteen also scored twice on offense. Warren Lester and Jonah Shaw had solid games and Christian Druebert blocked well.

The Warriors play at home this Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Arlington Newman. The Varsity Warriors are coached by Rob Vaughn.

The Middle School Lakehill football team began the season with an impressive 69-24 win over cross-town foe First Baptist Academy. The team was led by eighth graders Brett Peacock with seven touchdowns, and Mitchell Crow who had one rushing touchdown, two passing touchdowns, and also had two interceptions with one returned for a touchdown.

The Warriors began the scoring with a 10-yard run up the middle by Peacock early in the first quarter, followed by a point after touchdown by Henry Hopkins to make the score 8-0. The Warriors traded scores, but still led at the half, 34-18.

The Warriors dominated the second half, holding FBA from any further scoring until the end of the game. A highlight was an interception by eighth grader Alex Dondis. He then played quarterback, throwing a 12-yard touchdown pass to Hopkins. Lakehill closed out the game with Peacock scoring his seventh touchdown of the game.

The Warriors will next take on Arlington Newman at Home on Friday night with kickoff set for 5:30 p.m. The Middle School Warriors are coached by Denver Bowden and Jimmy LaBrie. The team is 1-0 on the season.

The Upper School Retreat rewards Lakehill’s Upper School students for their late nights and busy days with an entire school day’s worth of outdoor activities at Southern Cross Ranch. I’ve gone there all four years of Upper School, and it is a fun and exciting way to de-stress after the transition from summer schedule to school schedule.

While we are at the retreat, we have the freedom to roam about, watching the girls coach the guys on the volleyball court or lounging in one of the hammocks.

Every year, the highlight of my day at Southern Cross is not the paddleboats or the petting zoo. It is always the dozens of frogs that hop around the bank of the pond right in the center of the compound. It is incredible to walk along the side of the water and see what look like little blobs of living mud hop around your feet.

It is sad knowing that I won’t be going back next year to see another powder puff game or eat another bag of the amazing buttery popcorn they have ready. Nevertheless, I’m thankful that my school gave me the chance to spend quality time away from the chaos of daily life with the people I love in a place where I have made wonderful memories.

Lakehill's enhanced Main Campus.

Lakehill Preparatory School will open its doors to the neighborhood on Thursday, September 14, for a Community Open House. The entire community is invited to tour the new facility, which officially opened with the start of school on August 28.

"The completion of this project is the result of community collaboration," said Lakehill Headmaster Roger L. Perry. "Our neighbors were a valued resource during the planning of our school enhancements, and have been extremely supportive during the construction phase."

The building expansion offers students 16,000 square feet of new space and 8,000 square feet of renovated space. The enhancements include new lab spaces for science, writing, and computer science, as well as a new art studio. New classrooms, administrative offices, and meeting and event rooms were also added. A dramatic 5,000 square foot inner courtyard offers outdoor classroom and performance space.

"Improving our school will have a positive effect on our entire community," said Perry. "The Community Open House is our opportunity to let our neighbors and community members see what they have been a part of."

The Community Open House will be held on September 14 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Lakehill's Main Campus at 2720 Hillside Drive.

Matthew Trent, Roger Perry, Colleen McCall, Carmen Fort, Chuck Kobdish, Fred Welsh, Kert Platner, Rick Currey, and Mark Clayton
After years of planning and 15 months of construction, Lakehill opened the doors to its newly enhanced campus during a Ribbon-cutting Ceremony on August 29.

Hundreds of donors, board members, parents, neighbors, and community leaders joined the entire Lakehill faculty and students for the Ceremony. After a welcome from Headmaster Roger Perry, Board Chair Colleen McCall addressed the audience: "We have created new and larger classrooms for Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School. We have new art space that takes advantage of massive windows that allow in natural light so our talented students can continue to create award-winning art. We created new computer and writing lab space, expanded the library, and added common space for all to use."

In his remarks to the crowd, Dallas District 9 City Councilman Mark Clayton said he was thankful for the important role which Lakehill plays in the community, and how impressed he is every time he meets a Lakehill student or graduate. "Every Lakehill student is better for their experience here." Board members Matthew Trent and Rick Currey, who were instrumental in the project from design to completion, as well as members of the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce, also participated in the Ceremony.

"I hope that for all of you," said McCall, "this expansion is not a culmination of Lakehill’s success, but merely a physical manifestation of what we have all known for so long – Lakehill is a gem to be treasured by all who find it. I am so thrilled for my children, for your children, and for you – faculty and students - to be able to enjoy this beautiful new building."

“We appreciate the donors, board members, community leaders, neighbors, and all the members of our Lakehill family who worked together to make this dream a reality,” said Perry.
