I know it is only February, and summer seems like a distant dream, but, here at Lakehill, summer camp preparations are in full swing. Calendars are being set; camp descriptions are being finalized; and the Lakehill Summer Camps staff is busy planning a summer full of fun and adventure at both our Main Campus and the Environmental Science Center.
As this process unfolds, a single thought keeps coming back to me: I wish I were a kid again!
This year's camp lineup looks fabulous: STEM, Community Connections, LEGO Engineering, Destination Dallas, and other perennial favorites are all lined up and ready to go, but it's the newest camps that have me really excited!
Our summer camp teachers are endlessly innovative, bringing fresh ideas to the table every summer. Build it Big...With Newspaper is a new twist on a classic building and engineering camp that kids have loved for years. Campers won't believe how strong flimsy paper can become when it's layered, twisted, rolled, pressed, and glued. It's a great lesson in understanding how the structure of a material is just as important as the substance when it comes to building. Dungeons and Dragons--Beginners and Beyond is new to the books this year, too. This classic game of collaborative storytelling is the grandfather of all fantasy games, and we're certain that new generations of kids will love it as much as generations past. Rock Star Music Videos puts the fun of film-making in your child's hands. Campers will script and act out scenes to accompany their favorite songs, filming and editing in iMovie on the iPads. All that in just the first week of camps! Check out the link to see even more offerings from June to August.
