When hundreds of people take to the streets for a good cause, a lot can happen.
Lakehill Preparatory School's 16th Annual Trek for Tech, the Parent Faculty Club's signature fall event, combined all the right elements: two great races, dedicated sponsors, enthusiastic volunteers, a raffle with fantastic prizes, live music, and beautiful weather. The results were a great time for all who attended and a lot of money raised to purchase new technology.
Students, families, and faculty members put their best foot forward in the one-mile Fun Run, while a large crowd hit the pavement for the 5K chip-timed race. Attendees were also treated to a live performance by the band [sic] muzik featuring Lakehill students Brandon Douglas and Varun Iyer.
Triathlete and trainer to several Lakehill students, Samuel Law was the first place overall male for the second consecutive year with a time of 18:38. Seventh-grade parent Christell Baum was the top overall female runner with a time of 21:14.
The top finishing Lakehill students were Warren Lester with a time of 21:19 and Niamh McKinney, with a time of 27:24.
Organizers report that 437 people registered for this year's races, an increase over last year. The Trek Committee is still counting the dollars raised through sponsorships, registrations, and technology purchases.
Back this year was the Pasta Dinner, a carb-loading celebration held on Friday evening before the race at the Nye Family Environmental Science Center. For $5, diners enjoyed a delicious pasta and pizza dinner donated by Prego Pasta House. Guests were also treated to a musical performance during dinner by the band Thrills, featuring Lakehill seniors Camille Willaford and Erin Boyce.
The Trek Committee thanks those companies, individuals, and families who supported the race through underwriting and equipment purchases, and the faculty, NJHS, and parent volunteers who helped the event run smoothly.
Lakehill thanks John and Karen Owen for chairing this event and for their efforts in making Trek for Tech a huge success!
