State Debate: Lakehill Upper School Students Bring Home Honors

Twenty members of the Lakehill Upper School Debate team participated in the State Debate Conference, held on January 28-31 in Austin. More than 1,200 students participated in the conference. 
 
Lakehill had seven teams in State Affairs Forum, representing proposals including high poverty rates, lack of NASA funding, affirmative actions policies, low graduation rates in Texas, and SAT performance. Five teams advanced to the second round, and two teams advanced to the General Assembly, the third and final round made up of the top 10 teams. The proposal bBrandon DouglasVarun Iyer, and Carlos Lopez, III on the lack of drone regulations was passed in General Assembly and finished second overall. 
 
Additionally, Douglas was recognized as a Distinguished Delegate for his outstanding performance in pro/con debate. Zain Imam, who was elected as the District V State Affairs Forum Chair in November, ran in the statewide election and was selected as the 2016 State Affairs Forum Chair. He will preside over next year's District and State Conferences. Lakehill was named Premier Delegation for the third consecutive year.
