Frustrated with Your Kitchen? Design a Space that Works for You

After enjoying the recent rituals of this past holiday season, I’m always reminded of how the kitchen is truly the hub of the home. It’s where we most often congregate with family and friends, despite having other rooms that might be better accommodating. Truth be told, it’s where all the enticing aromas of a home cooked meal originate, inviting us in. Whether you’re cooking for your family or entertaining a small crowd, everyone seems to be drawn to this purposeful room.

Functionality is key and many clients come to us often feeling frustrated with a small space or ineffective layout. When this is the case, hosting the holidays or any gathering can be anything but a pleasant experience. It truly doesn’t have to be this way!

Often, we see kitchens in need of updating because the layout doesn’t lend itself to entertaining — or even cooking, for that matter! Not only can these rooms be poorly designed, but many times the blueprint doesn’t reflect the modern necessities of today’s busy lifestyle. We have evolved since the days of Leave it to Beaver with many more family members regularly using this room. The good news is, our modern day kitchens can satisfy our contemporary needs with a little bit of thought and planning!

The possibilities are great. Imagine creating a bigger room with a center, functional island that can serve as both an additional preparation area including a sink or appliances and a seating area for guests. Take down a wall or create a half wall to open up a small space adding light and dimension. With changes like this, your kitchen can become the new “living room!” Need a workspace? Redefine an existing layout to include a workstation for your computer, complete with file drawers, out of sight cable wiring, bookshelves and more. Looking to add a wine bar or coffee bar? It can be done. Your kitchen can become the room that has it all!

Aside from the practicality of a well-designed kitchen, there virtually are no limits to what can be achieved. Adding to the aesthetics, homeowners today have a wide variety of high quality cabinetry, flooring, lighting, finishes and high-end appliances to choose from.
