Bryan Adams Cougars Save Lives

Students, teachers and community members gathered at the Bryan Adams library on September 22, 2016 to donate a pint of blood with the American Red Cross. Bryan Adams seniors April Benitez and Alondra Hernandez were the masterminds behind the blood drive. With the guidance of their Senior Sponsor, Ms. Kristy James, these ladies were able to help the American Red Cross collect 89 pints of blood. According to the American Red Cross, 1 pint of blood can save up to 3 lives. So that means Bryan Adams High School Leadership Academy could potentially save 267 lives!

Senior Alondra Hernandez said that the opportunity to receive a scholarship from the Red Cross was a major motivator for her to get the blood drive started. “The scholarship would be amazing for college because right now it’s the only thing I’m worried about,” said Hernandez.

Senior April Benitez said that the loss of her grandmother was a big inspiration for her to join forces with Hernandez. “She needed a lot blood so I think it’s really cool that we’re doing this.” Benitez went further to say “I think it’s great that [my peers] are taking time out of their day to help out.”
