On Friday, May 15th, nearly 20 Bryan Adams students worked with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and DISD Food Services to conduct a survey to see how much food is being wasted at the school. 100 students per lunch were surveyed. The selected students were given wristbands and asked to bring their trays to a section outside of the cafeteria. Students disposing of their food were asked why they did not eat certain items, while others took notes on clipboards. While this was being asked, the disposed trays were separated into "Meats, Cheese, Cabbage, Slaw", "Compost", and "Unopened Goods".
The EPA will take the information found and compile the data to figure out a better system to waste less food in the school system. There will also be a follow up with the Bryan Adams Cafeteria staff to see how we can better work to preserve our environment through meal intake, as well.
Thank you Bryan Adams JROTC, EPA, and DISD Food Services for this opportunity!
