The Bishop Lynch Lady Friar Volleyball team came out determined and focused this weekend, resulting in two, three-game match wins in the TAPPS 5A Super Regional Tournament. The victories qualified the team for the state tournament next weekend, November 7-8 … the seventh consecutive appearance for the Lady Friar Volleyball program!
Bishop Lynch soundly defeated both of their opponents, overpowering Beaumont Kelly on Friday, October 31 – 25-1, 25-9, 25-15 and St. Anthony (San Antonio) on Saturday, November 1 – 25-4, 25-12, 25-11. On offense, outstanding performances came from junior Francesca Goncalves, freshman Madison Tyus and senior Haley Puddy, who lead the team on kills. Goncalves also led the team on serving with an impressive 17 service aces. Running the offense and assisting their hitters were setters senior Morgan Reed and sophomore Callie Williams who garnered a combined 59 assists.
On defense, the Lady Friars were equally as sound, resulting in notable showings from junior Francesca Goncalves, freshman Madison Tyus and junior Danielle Nevitt. Supporting the efforts of the back-row defense was senior Sofia Schleppenbach who created a huge presence at the net leading the team in blocks.
The Lady Friars will play at Corsicana High School on Friday, November 7 at 3:00 pm versus the Apaches of San Antonio Antonian for the state semi-final match. Come support your Lady Friars on their quest for their third consecutive TAPPS 5A State Championship!
