The Bishop Lynch AquaFriars took to the pool on Friday for the TAPPS North Regional Swim Meet at Mansfield ISD.

The Friars were hugely successful, with the Lady Friars finishing second with 105 points, and the men's team finishing third with 67 points.

The Friar ladies were led by regional champion Niamh Tierney, who won the 50-yard freestyle in a personal best time of 25.65 seconds, and finished third in the 100-yard freestyle in a personal best time of 56.47 seconds.

Tierney now enters the TAPPS State Championships on Feb. 13 in San Antonio as the top overall seed in the 50-yard freestyle. The junior got support from:

• Freshman Ailish Tierney, who finished second in the 100-yard freestyle and third in the 200-yard freestyle. Ailish enters the state championships as the third seed in the 100-freestyle and fourth seed in the 200 freestyle;

• Senior captain Jessica Jordan, who finished third in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. Jordan enters the state meet seeded fifth in both events;

• Senior Jordan Carl, who finished fourth in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke, the former in a personal best time of 2:07.37. Carl earned the sixth seed in the 200-freestyle and seventh seed in the 100 breaststroke at state;

• Junior Bonnie Nolan, who finished third in the 100-yard backstroke and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle. Nolan is seeded sixth in backstroke and eighth in the 500 freestyle at state;

• Junior Jesseca Hageman, who finished sixth in the 100-yard backstroke and eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke, both in personal best times. Hageman earned the 10th seed in backstroke and 12th seed in breaststroke; and

• Senior Shauna Seidel, who finished seventh in the 500-yard freestyle and will be seeded 12th at state.

Niamh and Ailish Tierney teamed with Jordan and Nolan to finish second in the 200-yard medley relay in a season-best time of 1:57.63. That team enters the state meet seeded third.

The Tierneys and Jordan were joined by Shauna Seidel in finishing third in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and Nolan, Seidel, Carl and Hageman grouped to finish third in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Both the 200 and 400 free relays will be seeded fifth at TAPPS state.

The Friar men were led by junior Will Eckles, who finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a personal best time of 1:51.16 seconds, and third in the 500-yard freestyle. Eckles will move on to state seeded sixth in the 200-yard freestyle and eighth in the 500. Eckles got help from:

• Junior Sean O'Hare, who finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle and seventh in the 50-yard freestyle, both in personal best times. O'Hare will be seeded 10th in the 200 free at the state meet;

• Junior AJ Armenta, who finished third in the 100 backstroke, dropping almost six seconds in time, and earning the 13th seed at state in that event. Armenta also finished eighth in the 100 freestyle;

• Junior captain Eric Bray, who finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle; and

• Sophomore George Smith, who dropped more than eight seconds in finishing seventh in the 200-yard individual medley, and eighth in the 100-yard butterfly.

Armenta and Bray combined with junior Will Seidel and freshman Josh Ponewash to finish fifth in the 200-yard medley relay. That relay will move on to state as the 15th seed.  

O'Hare, Eckles and Seidel were joined by freshman Joe Weber in finishing fifth in the 200 freestyle relay, which moves on to state as the 11th seed.  

The 400 freestyle relay team of Eckles, O'Hare, Bray and sophomore Killian Baker finished fourth in that event, moving on as the 10th seed at the state championships.
