One quarter made the difference in a big district game Friday, but the Friars found themselves on the wrong end and eventually fell to John Paul II, 60-55.

The loss drops the Friars into a tie for last place in the district with Bishop Dunne.

Chris Scaife scored 18 points, Sean Coman added 12 and Zach McManus tossed in 11 for Bishop Lynch. The Cardinals also had three players in double figures as Bryce Hubbard pumped in 18, Chris Conway had 15 and Spencer Forbes finished with 14.

The Friars opened a 14-13 lead after the opening period, but fell behind by a 33-18 margin at the half. That margin would hold up entering the final frame.

Despite outscoring the Cardinals by 10 in the fourth period, the Friars were unable to complete a large come-from-behind win.

The Friars travel to Nolan Catholic on Friday to take on the Vikings, who currently sit in fourth place with a 5-6 district record. Bishop Lynch won the first meeting (55-52) with Nolan back on Jan. 12.

The junior varsity topped JPII by a 72-46 score. Matthew Best and Zach Mueller each tossed in 12 points, helping the JV Friars improve to 19-6 overall and 9-1 in district play.

The freshmen boys also topped JPII, winning 69-64 and improving to 18-6 overall and 8-2 in district play.
