With weekend tournaments on the horizon, the Bishop Lynch men's basketball program got some needed momentum Tuesday, sweeping North Garland at BLHS.
The varsity Friars got off to a great start in the opening frame and carried it to a 77-51 lead over the Raiders.
Nick Freis led the team with 13 points, Carson Hill tossed in 12 and Chris Scaife added 10. Josh Garza and Jordan Buck each scored seven points to help the Friars' cause.
In the junior varsity game, Davis Peck and Zach Muller each scored nine points, leading the Friars to a 62-44 win over North Garland. Jacob Horn added eight points.
Drew Grinbergs was 5-of-5 from the field, scoring a team-high 10 points during the freshman contest and Michael Horak added nine as the Friars won by a 54-38 score.
The varsity team will compete Thursday through Saturday at the 24-team Houston Christian Tournament, opening the event with a 3:30 p.m. contest Thursday against St. Thomas Episcopal.
The JV and freshman teams will compete in separate tournaments this weekend, each at Irving ISD. The JV will open Friday at 5 p.m. against Irving Nimitz, while the freshmen take the floor against Nimitz at 6 p.m.
The Friars will be back at home Dec. 11, when they open district play against Liberty Christian. The game will be shown live on Sportsgram.net.
