The Bishop Lynch Lady Friars swim team competed in the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coach's Class 5A Swim/Dive meet last Friday and Saturday at the Frisco Natatorium.
The Lady Friars gave a very good account of themselves, finishing 14th in the field of 36 teams.
The Lady Friars were led by junior Niamh Tierney, who qualified for two individual finals on Saturday. Niamh swam a personal best time of 25.94 in finishing 12th in the 50-yard freestyle, and finished 13th in the 100-yard freestyle in 57.55 seconds.
Other BL swimmers who qualified for the finals on Saturday were:
• Freshman Ailish Tierney, who swam a season-best 5:30.3 in finishing 11th in the 500-yard freestyle;
• Senior Jordan Carl, who finished 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke in a fine time of 1:13.4;
• Junior Bonnie Nolan, who finished 15th in the 500-yard freestyle; and
• Senior captain Jessica Jordan, who finished 16th in the 200-yard individual medley.
All three relays also qualified for the finals on Saturday, and all three swam season-best times in the finals.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Ailish Tierney, Carl, Jordan and Niamh Tierney finished 12th overall in 2:01.7.
The Tierney's teamed with Nolan and senior Shauna Seidel to finish 10th in 1:46.76 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Seidel and Nolan teamed with Carl and junior Jesseca Hageman to finish 14th in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:59.69.
The Friar swimmers will be off until Jan. 7, when they take on St. Marks and Hockaday at St. Marks.
Congratulations to this week's Aquaman, sophomore George Smith, and this week's Aquawoman, junior Niamh Tierney.
