The 1-2 punch of freshmen Jaida Thomas and Endyia Rogers combined for 25 points Tuesday, helping lift the Bishop Lynch Lady Friars to a 58-53 home win over Skyline in the 2015-16 season opener.

Thomas slashed her way through the Skyline defense for a team-high 15 points, while Rogers added 10 for the Lady Friars (1-0). Murphy Yoxall and Gabby Rogers each tossed in eight, Bianca Bowring added six and Mallory Lancaster added four as BL completed a program sweep of the Lady Raiders.

The Lady Friars led just 14-12 after the opening frame, but pushed the deficit to double-digits with a 29-16 advantage. Entering the fourth, BL took a 45-28 lead, but had to hold on as Skyline rallied for 25 points in the fourth.

The junior varsity easily put Skyline away, winning by a 43-21 margin.

Jackie Walker led the Lady Friars with 11, Monica Gonzalez added 10 and Kristen Phoenix tossed in seven points.

The freshman team overcame a slow start to roll past Skyline, 41-19.

Katie Hammonds led all scorers with 10, Bella Mendoza added seven and Macie Valles put in six points for the Lady Friars.

The varsity will be in action again next Tuesday, hitting the road to take on FW Lake Country at 6:30 p.m.

The junior varsity will compete in the 2015 Allen JV Hoopfest, beginning Thursday. The Lady Friar JV will face Naaman Forest at 11 a.m. to open the 36-team event. They will face either Lewisville or McKinney at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The freshman team will host the BL Freshman Tournament this weekend and face South Grand Prairie at 7 p.m. Friday in the opening round of the 8-team tournament.

The freshmen will face either West Mesquite or Lovejoy on Saturday at either 9:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.
