After winning a fourth straight state championship, it should come as no surprise that the Bishop Lynch Lady Friars also cleaned up in the postseason awards.
Yesterday, the 2015 All-District and All-State lists were released, with more than a few Lady Friars receiving recognition.
Four were chosen for the TAPPS 5A All-State Team, including seniors Francesca Goncalves and Cat Balido. Joining them on the 1st Team is junior Callie Williams, while sophomore Madi Tyus was chosen for the 2nd Team.
Goncalves — a Florida State University signee for sand volleyball — racked up 363 kills and 275 digs for the Lady Friars, who finished 38-8 this season. She led the team with 58 service aces.
Balido — who signed with Boston College last week — led the team with 385 kills and 24 blocks. Williams posted team-highs in assists (720) and digs (327), while serving 51 aces.
Tyus — the reigning Newcomer of the Year in Texas — elevated her status with 324 kills and 283 digs, helping the Lady Friars finish the season ranked No. 4 in the state among all schools — public and private.
All four of these Lady Friars received All-Tournament honors during the Final Four in San Antonio last weekend. The team swept both Concordia Lutheran and Ursuline Academy to win another state title.
Danielle Nevitt earned 2nd Team All-District recognition after tallying 323 digs as a defensive specialist for the Lady Friars. Kipp totaled 175 kills and 22 blocks to also make the 2nd Team and Heigele finished the year with 537 assists and 254 digs to receive honorable mention.
Tricia Roos was named Coach of the Year by District 1-5A.
