The 2015-16 wrestling season came to an end for the Bishop Lynch team, ending with a Top 5 finish at the TAPPS State Championships in San Antonio.

Several wrestlers earned Top 4 finishes in their weight classes, while one led the way with a gold medal. Greg Martinez pinned all three of his opponents Saturday to win the 182-pound class.

Martinez led the Friars to a fifth-place finish in the team standings. BL earned 111 total points, just one behind McKinney Christian in fourth place. The Top 3 teams were Liberty Christian (224), TCA-Addison (168) and Houston St. Thomas (131.5).

Michael Metry and Charlie Stalder earned silver medals in the 195- and 220-pound classes, respectively. Max Mills was also a silver medalist in the 126s. Martinez, Mills and Metry will compete this weekend at the Prep National Championships, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

Aaron Santiesteban won bronze in the 170 class, rounding out a total of five medal winners from Bishop Lynch.

Fourth-place finishes were earned by Williams Parsons (106), Judd Pankey (113) and Marcel Vaudry (120). All three won two matches during the competition. Paul Davis and Juac Angoi also won a match and earned points toward the final team total.
