First-place Lady Friars blast their way past Nolan

Two big blasts by Francesca Farlow and a nine-strikeout performance from Abby Thrashhelped the Lady Friars top Nolan Catholic and stay alone atop the district standings with a 10-6 win Thursday.

Farlow — who has signed with the United States Coast Guard Academy — hit a three-run bomb in the opening frame as Bishop Lynch (5-6, 4-0) took a 5-0 lead after one. She followed that with a two-run shot in the fourth, putting the Lady Friars ahead 10-2.

Thrash was able to hold off a Nolan rally despite a pair of errors by the defense late in the game. The freshman pitched well, allowing just four hits and four walks in addition to her nine strikeouts.

Farlow finished the game 3-for-3 with five RBIs and scored three times. Annabel Quinn was also perfect in three plate appearances, Kristen Linares had a pair of hits, as did Thrash. Noelle Pastor doubled, drove in a run and scored twice.

The Lady Friars will attempt to stay unbeaten in district play when they travel to Liberty Christian tomorrow at 5 p.m. Bishop Lynch will attempt to sweep the season series from the Warriors, after beating LCS by a 14-2 score on March 22.
